MOROCCO

For honeymooners who want a complete departure from their typical routines back home, Morocco provides a unique and cultural getaway that is creatively invigorating and beautiful at every turn. Plus, any couple with a new home to decorate will find a goldmine of treasures within Morocco’s bustling medinas. Start the trip by flying into the country’s most popular city, Marrakech, then choose your own adventure from there — whether that’s exploring the blue city of Chefchaouen, the Mediterranean seaside town of Essaouira, or camping in the desert at the Instagram-famous Scarebo Camp.
You’ll want to pack clothing that covers both your shoulders and knees in respect for local traditions and cultures, but that is simultaneously lightweight so you’re not sweltering in the Arabian sun. Focus on bringing different pieces that you can layer and remove easily when travelling through various more public and private areas of the country.

SOUTH AFRICA

A luxurious African safari is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is the perfect trip to tackle for a honeymoon, as it’s the ultimate combination of both relaxation and adventure. Find a safari camp that offers a mix of both, with exciting game drives showcasing a wide range of wildlife, plus a picturesque pool and spa to unwind with your significant other. Gondwana Game Reserve, which is only four hours outside of Cape Town, is the perfect place to escape for a shorter safari adventure while still having time to explore other beautiful spots that South Africa has to offer.

Packing for a safari is quite different than most other trips and requires a lot of layers, as temperatures can be cold in the early mornings and sweltering by midday. Opt for pants and tops in neutral tones, as these will help you stay cooler and also keep you from standing out too much amidst the natural landscape.

BALI

There’s a reason why Bali is on everyone’s bucket list. The Indonesian island is both exotic in its landscape and cultural appeal, yet quite Westernized and entry-level for those who don’t want to be completely thrown from their comfort zones. Any visitor to this Balinese paradise should be sure to spend time in Ubud, the island’s spiritual and cultural center, and then head to the lesser trafficked parts of Bali’s Eastern coast, where more luxurious resorts like the Amankila and Alila provide the perfect honeymooners’ escape for relaxation by the sea.

Bali’s dress code is typically quite casual, with most tourists opting for denim shorts and tanks or easy-to-throw-on sundresses and rompers that can be layered over their swimwear. Pack a couple of nicer dresses for evening, and if you’re planning on renting a scooter — how the locals and many of the tourists get around — consider bringing a backpack to carry your belongings hands-free while en route.
